Talents in Lebanon - Photographer: Karen K

This is the second entry of Talents in Lebanon. The first was about the composer and musician Jalal Haddad.

This entry comes in a bit late nevertheless it is only because I want to make sure that I only bring you the best.

Every morning. So every morning I wake up with a purpose... With a bedhead, I go down some few floors to grab a cup of coffee from a cafe across the street...

I have been introduced to the work of the Lebanese photographer Karen K on Flickr.com consequently I have immediately been drawn to them. After browsing the work of so many photographers, I only experienced the feeling of closeness when I stumbled upon the photos Karen have taken. I couldn't take my eyes off her photostream, one after another. Each time I thought I had found the best one, I was wrong.

The interesting thing about Karen's work, is her work can feed different tastes. Everyone can find his own favorites while skimming through her library of photos.

To know more about Karen, where she lives, her interests, etc... You can view her profile here.

Out of breath. Self-Portrait.

Furthermore, ladies and gentlement, Karen's photographs. Karen has many albums, if you are lost and don't know where to start, I recommend Karen's dearest photos.

Karen even had her share in reporting about the war in her own way.

This was shot few weeks before the war started in Lebanon. www.oilspilllebanon.com

10 things we learned in 2006

That's a pretty much interesting article from MSN UK about 10 things we learned in 2006.

We learned that stringrays can kill, that UK has the best public transportation, that if we save the earth from the Global warming is far less cheaper than what it will cost us on the long run, and the most interesting for me was "Pluto is not a planet". After all those decades, a new definition of a planet has been introduced here and Pluto is now described as dwarf planet.

10 things I hate in people

  1. How only when we receive something in an email telling us about how we shouldn't take things for granted, that we actually realize it
  2. How only when we see something expensive even if it tasteless, that we think it's worth it
  3. How we wear clothes that make us look like a potato only because it is the trend
  4. How we forget the true meaning of holidays
  5. How someone thinks we are great friends to them only when we get them an expensive gift
  6. How friendship is no longer a feeling, but mutual interest
  7. How we take crap sometimes from the boss, just because we need our salary at the end of the month
  8. How the more we get paid, the more we spend
  9. How home is a large place full of fancy furniture, and not a small one with loved ones in it
  10. How success is a position in a company, and not a position in close ones' life

I was born 26 years ago

I got to my desk, and I saw this.

First I thought it was from J, and then I thought, how could he have gotten it to work so fast in the morning, but then I read the card, and it turned out it is from my friend/colleague Marthe. Cute.

Why do we smile?

Gregorio Allegri - Miserere Mei, Deus

I have this music at home, a capella religious music. It is beautiful. So today while I was driving to work, I put on the radio, and naturally as the country is mourning for Minister Pierre Gemayel's death, only classical and religious music are being played on the radios. Anyway, this music came up. And as soon as I heard it I just gazed and started day-dreaming. Allegri's Miserere Dei is beautiful, sad and so hypnotic.

So here's a sample in Windows Media Player, click here.
And in RealOne Player, click here.

Favorite moment of a work day

Bathroom.

Skipping work

<--- My display picture on msn while I am at work.

Anyway, I woke up yesterday at 7:50am on the alarm buzzing over my head, turned it off, and went back to sleep. I usually do so until 8:05am and then get up. It was 8:30am and I was still in bed, not being able to lift a leg. When I finally did, I sat on the bed for 5 seconds and asked myself: "Why is it so important to go to work today?". And this is when I decided to go back to sleep and skip work.

Of course, mom is a maximizer, so she really made use of me being at home. In addition to that the balcony needed a serious paint job, so I painted the walls.

This is how I spent my fake sick day.

Robotic

Sometimes when I drive home, I park my car, get out of it, enter the building and arrive to my house. After a while, I think back of what did I really do to go from the Ground Floor to the 4th Floor where my house is, and I seriously can't remember. It's like I blacked out while doing whatever I did. I don't remember if I took the elevator or the stairs, if I ran into someone, said hello to them...

This has been happening to me a lot. If somebody gives me something, after 10-15 minutes I remember and I ask myself: "Did I say thank you?". People talk to me and I either don't answer, forget if I did answer them, or what I answered them.

I am proud to say I have been promoted from human being to a Robot.

Slacking off Pays Off

Have you seen the movie "Office Space"? It's about this guy who works as a programmer in some big company, and then while he was at his therapist, getting hypontized to feel relaxed, cool, and someone who shouldn't take life too seriously, the therapist dies of a heart-attack.

Consequently, the guy leaves the clinic and goes to work the next day, still feeling relaxed and cool, dressed as if he was going fishing. So he spends his time at work playing and not working, even thinking of stealing from the company by planning for it with the other IT guys. I won't tell you what happens at the end so I don't ruin the movie for you, but one point I want to mention is that he actually gets promoted.

This movie always cracked me up. And let's just say, I felt like I was in Office Space today.

What Radios should do

I discovered today what kind of programs Radios should play. Today when I was driving to work, I turned on the car radio as usual, I put on this program of Gaven Ford and that other girl, Samantha! Yes that's her name. It's about Hollywood Trash Tabloid or something of that sort. I usually don't care about this kinda news, but when Gaven said he knows the reason behind the divorce of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe, I was pretty much curious. Again, I usually don't care about these things, but specifically Reese and Ryan are a Hollywood couples that interested me, because I always thought that they were different from all the other Hollywood couples, they looked like a happy family, with a simple and nice life, we never really heard much about the couple before, so they didn't become a couple to be more famous.

And now, they're getting a divorce. Why? Well I got to work before Gaven said the reason. I thought, should I wait in the car and keep the radio on till he says it? Well not really, because I have the Internet!

Finally, Radio programs should talk about stuff we don't find on the Internet, this can make them indispensable or at least, interesting.

My Morning Coffee

Finally after months, I am having a good coffee. It turned out that the reason for the coffee to taste good is drinking it in a Cup and not a Mug. I guess that's why it's called "a cuppa coffee".

Insane Little Drummer Kid

He's not really insane. But he really seems to be 8 or 9 years old, and he's pretty good. It is amazing how things appear so easy to certain people. Take me for example, I play the piano like Mozart since I was 3 years old, more like I play like a 3-year old!!!
